The organisation has taken on Coventry Rugby Club’s number eight Sebastian Pearson, fly-half Elliott Read and flanker Jamie Harrop as sports coaches.
The trio now work with schoolchildren at the Coventry Sports Foundation-managed Centre AT7 in Bell Green Road, the Alan Higgs Centre in Allard Way and the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley, as well as visiting schools to coach children across the city.
Sebastian, who has represented Canada at under-20 level and has also played for Leicester Tigers and Stourbridge, said: “When I signed for Coventry in the summer I needed to find work and the Director of Rugby at Coventry Rugby Club recommended Coventry Sports Foundation.
“It has been great so far and we are all really enjoying working with the kids who have been very good.
“The best thing is getting to know the kids, helping them have fun and hopefully we are benefitting them by passing on what we know through our coaching.”
All three coaches work five days a week to take sessions in a wide range of sports including rugby, football and athletics.
Wendy Jackson, Coventry Sports Foundation’s sports development manager, said: “We are delighted to have three people as highly qualified as Jamie, Elliott and Sebastian working with Coventry Sports Foundation.
“The fact that they play their sports at such a high level seems to make the youngsters even more receptive to their sessions and the children will benefit hugely from the experience of the three of them.
“Sport in schools has a very important role to play and we think these appointments underline our commitment to continue to provide coaching of the highest level while other organisations are being forced to cut back.”
