Pat has been a member of ‘Lifestyles’ for an incredible 20 years. He joined ‘Lifestyles’ in the early 1990s when the Butts Stadium running track fell out of regular use, since then Pat has never looked back.
Exercise has always been a big part of Pat’s life. He started weightlifting in his early 1920s before serving in the army for two years. In the early 1960s Pat took to the streets road running, where he would run an average of between seven and eight miles at a time.
As well as health and fitness Pat explains how ‘Lifestyles’ has kept his mind and body active.
“Using ‘Lifestyles’ at the age of 78 has helped me continue to work part time at a supermarket where I am lifting heavy boxes,” he said.
When asked how he has managed to motivate himself all these years, he said: “I am my own motivator I have enjoyed keeping fit all my life.
“I train five times a week, two of those days are track running and three of those days in is the gym using cardio vascular machines, resistance machines and free weights.”
Pat feels that being a member of ‘Lifestyles’ has increased his self-confidence no end. “I feel great after a training session in the gym, it’s not just about the health and fitness aspect, it is also about the socialising with other members that I have known for many years,” he added.
Discussing how ‘Lifestyles’ will benefit Pat in the future, he interrupts jokingly: “As long as I am alive, at my age everyday is a bonus but on a more serious not I will use ‘Lifestyles’ and train as long as I possibly can.”
