Biggest Stars of children's TV head to town

Wednesday 9 June 2010

Two of children’s television’s biggest stars will be boarding the Ninky Nonk train to Coventry next month!

Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy will be making a special appearance at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Mitchell Avenue, Canley, at its annual family summer fete on Sunday, June 13.

The ‘In the Night Garden’ characters will meet fans of their show and pose for photographs.

Activities on the day will include sports taster sessions, traditional games stalls, craft workshops, bouncy castles and demonstrations of some of the centre’s activities.

Staff in fancy dress will also be joined by the centre’s mascot, the Lifestyle’s Lion.

Jamie Brightwell, manager of the Xcel Leisure Centre, said the aim of the fete was to give families a great day out.

“We are all really excited to hold the summer fete because not only can we raise money for charity, but we can provide the children and their parents with a fun-packed day,” said Jamie.

“We’re thrilled that Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy will be coming to see us and we’ve got lots to pack in during the day and we’re expecting good support for what should be a fantastic fete.

“The staff are getting into the spirit of things by wearing fancy dress and we’ll also be demonstrating some of the fun things we do here, including activities people may not have seen before, like Socatots and Zumba.”

Coventry Sports Foundation has organised the summer fete in partnership with the Rotary Club of Coventry Jubilee, and the event will raise money for local charities.

There will also be a raffle on the day with prizes including a free health and fitness membership for two, and lunch and an iPod shuffle.

Entry to the family fun day is £1 for adults and under-12s are free with tickets available on the gate. Activities will begin at 11am and finish at 5pm. For more information call 024 7685 6956.
