| Coventry City Football Club Academy |
| |
| Coventry City Football Clubs Academy are based at The Alan Higgs Centre and enjoy the most
modern indoor and outdoor training facilities that are available to any Academy, anywhere in the
UK. |
| |
| The Academy players have access to four grass pitches, one of which is built to Premier League
match specifications and is used as the Senior Academy match pitch; the outdoor floodlit 'Third
Generation' synthetic pitch; and the indoor 'Third Generation' synthetic. Not only does the Centre
provide excellent facilities to the players, but parents are also encouraged to make use of the
Centre facilities (see above). All of these excellent facilities will help the Academy operation and
allow them to be better equipped to develop young and up and coming talent |

| Environmental Projects |
| |
| The opening of The Alan Higgs Centre and the 80 acres of land that surround it, has offered
Coventry Sports Foundation the opportunity to extend its interest and community involvement to a
completely new field, the Natural Environment. |
| |
| Situated alongside a section of the River Sowe, the site is already abundant with a wide variety of
micro habitat due to the presence of a river, a marshy area, ephemeral waters, hedgerows,
grasslands and a variety of trees and smaller plant life. Each of these elements is peculiar in their
own existence, so the opportunities that are presented by their combined existence within an inner
city setting are unique. The strands that Coventry Sports Foundation will focus on as far as
environmental projects are concerned are: |
| |
| |
| Habitat Management: |
| The aim of Coventry Sports Foundation is to restore the site from years of neglect and vandalism
to create an ecosystem of high ecological value, and demonstrate that built and natural
environments can coexist through appropriate consideration of environmental issues. Whilst some
areas will be intentionally less managed to encourage the enhancement of wildlife, the areas
closest to the building will be developed and used for educational and community purposes. Such
projects will include; |
| Butterfly Garden |
| Sensory Garden |
| Cottage Garden |
| Allotments |
|
Recycling / Composting Area |
| Orchards |
| and much more... |
| |
|
| |
| |
| Community / Volunteer programmes: |
| A key role in the development of the site is provided by established and newly developed
partnerships with local agencies. Through the consolidated partnership with Henley College,
numerous study programmes have been agreed that will utilise the site as a study resource, whilst
also involve the provision of a work force to undertake the labour intensive projects. Volunteer
programmes for individuals from the community will be developed with a particular emphasis on
involving the interests of people with mental illness. |
| |
| Educational activities: |
| An Educational-Advisory Group is being formed to develop the site to meet schools needs, linking
with National Curriculum. Activity packs for schools are being developed; after-school and holiday
activities for the "River Sowe Rangers' Club" have been planned. The activities that will be run for the
"River Sowe Rangers' Club" will include: |
| Pond Dipping; |
| Orienteering; |
| Food Web Game; |
| Camouflage Game; |
| Germination Game; |
| Arts & Crafts; |
| Track Wildlife |
| Building Hedgehog Houses |
| and a lot more... |
