The Alan Higgs Centre was opened in 2004 to provide much needed sports and leisure facilities for people living in the South East of Coventry. The state of the art centre boasts some of the best sports and recreational facilities in the city.

The Alan Higgs Centre is located within 80 acres of land that has been subjected to many years of neglect and vandalism. A partnership with the Living Environment Trust in 2007 was established to transform the site into an important ecological and leisure resource for the community.

In addition to an extensive range of facilities for sport, exercise and recreational participation, the Alan Higgs Centre also incorporates specialist facilities such as indoor and outdoor 3G pitches, a BMX track, skate park and natural play area.

The Alan Higgs Centre, which is the base for Coventry City Football Club Academy, has hosted training sessions for National and International football teams and is the base for the Midlands Centre of Excellence for Rugby League. The Centre has also been chosen by LOCOG as a training venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Coventry took centre stage as the argument to use technology in football gathered pace when the latest gadgets were tested in the city for a TV programme.

BMX and cycling enthusiasts will be able to hone their skills at a purpose built £50,000 track in Coventry.

Coventry could produce the next generation of Rugby League superstars after the sport’s West Midlands’ regional player development centre was established in the city.
