When London was awarded the 2012 Olympics, Lord Coe made a promise
that these games would reach out and inspire the youth of the world.
Furthermore, a key goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating and inspiring youth through sport.
London’s vision was one of inspiration and legacy and the Coventry 2012 Partnership has been inspired to reach out in particular to the youth of Africa in a partnership that will extend beyond 2012.
No other continent experiences challenges like Africa – economic, political and environmental and yet its sporting and cultural achievements are breathtaking.
The Africa Inspires Project brings together five schools from Coventry with five schools from Kampala for an 18 month initial pilot project built around the two central themes of sports development and improving access to clean drinking water.
The school ‘twinning’ is most central to the project objectives as this project aims to develop the capacity and skills of those in schools, whilst also serving to build and strengthen communities, both locally and internationally between Kampala and Coventry.
